You have to have a hard conversation — and you wish you had a script
In this 30-minute session, we will map out what you need to communicate and the most effective way to say it, so you go into that conversation feeling grounded and prepared. We may even have time to practice the conversation and cover some what-ifs.
This mini-communication session works really well to prepare for:
Setting boundaries with in-laws
Communicating your boundaries to family members and other loved ones
Communicating sexual needs and desires
Asking a partner to go to therapy with you
Telling someone the impact they’ve had on you, when it will likely bring up shame for them
Quitting your job, or asking for a raise
Apologizing
Navigating family events with multiple political and religious perspectives
If you have a hard conversation coming up, including a letter or email you need to write someone, get prepared. One of the things I most love doing with clients is helping them formulate what they want to say in weighty conversations.
If you feel like you need to have a hard conversation–confronting someone on ways in which they impacted you or asking for certain wants or needs to get met; if you fear they won’t hear you or be able to meet those needs, or you’re not sure how they’re going to respond, I offer single-session coaching for you to develop language that feels like “you” and helps keep defenses low and collaboration high.
